Organic Salad Dressings

We got four new types of salad dressing in this week – all are organic and delicious!

We have two classic flavors up on the site – Caesar and Ranch. Both are the creamy traditional versions that we all know and love. They make for great dipping sauces on the trail, especially if you’ve packed in fresh carrot sticks or are planning to cook up a pepperoni roll or other wrap at camp.

The Sesame Ginger is a surprisingly good Asian dressing that goes well with noodle salads, stir fry or other Asian dishes. This dressing makes for an incredibly easy way to pack in a tasty Asian sauce without needing to repackage or worry about leakage.

The Goddess dressing is a tangy tahini (ground sesame seeds) dressing, making this a great choice for traditional pairings with falafel or couscous. Easy, yummy and spill-free: this is definitely my new go-to sauce for Mediterranean dishes.

One other nice feature on these dressings is the pour spout and double notched edges. The pour spout makes it easy to direct the flow of your dressing and helps make sure that you don’t accidentally pour on the entire packet! Plus, there is a tear notch on either side of the pour spout, so if you’re unsuccessful opening the dressing on the first go-around, you’ll always get a second chance.

Trip Planning via Spreadsheet

Backpacking Light hosted a contest some time ago encouraging backpackers to send in their trip planning spreadsheets. As dorky as this is, I have to admit that I have a weakness for a good spreadsheet - and some of these are pretty amazing.

Visit Backpackit Light to download the spreadsheet that fits your hiking style best. You never know... using one of these spreadsheets may just make your trip a little bit lighter.

February Features

Trailside Gourmet
We began to feature some of our meals in set menus last month to make it a little bit easier to plan your trip. One of our set menus, Trailside Gourmet, features several of our more
gourmet meals so that you can easily impress your outdoorsy valentines date. Each meal choice offers different levels of cooking commitment – so you can go for EZ+ or decide to really impress your date and Chef-It-Up!

Freeze-Dried Strawberries
Who doesn’t think of strawberries in the month of February? Enjoy a simple dessert of strawberries and chocolate fudge or really go all out and create a trail version of strawberry shortcake.

Hot & Spicy Mesquite Smoked Dried Sausage
Spice things up with a little of our hot and spicy sausage! Made locally and delivered fresh
, these sausages are only a few weeks old (at most) when they land on your doorstep. A mildly spicy, intensely flavorful and tender dry sausage this is my favorite type of sausage from Gourmet Meats.

Moonshine Margarita
End your day in the outdoors with our tart and tangy Moonshine Margarita. Serve one of these up and sit back to enjoy the sunset for the end to a perfect day of hiking or paddling.
