We’ve been looking for a high quality jam or jelly in a packet and we finally found a delicious option - Bonne Maman Strawberry Preserves.
Loved throughout France, Bonne Maman preserves are made without colorings, artificial preservatives, pulps, purees, juices or concentrates. A delightful ingredient list, these strawberry preserves contain only fruit and sugar. Not bad.
In addition to tasting great, these preserves are available in a packet, rather than a cup. It’s been very important to us to find products available in packets ever since we took a variety of condiments in cups on one trip and made the mistake of sitting on the pack during a break. Many of the little cups popped open with the pressure and we had syrup, jelly and honey mustard sauce all over the place!
It’s a pretty natural conclusion to come to, but I’ll say it anyway. These preserves are great paired with one of the Justin’s nut butters! I’ve tried it with the classic peanut butter and the almond butter and it made for a great PB&J both times. Unless you like your sandwich on the sweet side, I’d opt for the pain versions (not the kind with honey). The sugars and natural sweetness of the strawberries take care of the sweetness factor nicely on their own.
We’ve gotten lots of great emails from customers letting us know where they’ve taken Packit Gourmet’s meals and we really wanted to be able to share these stories with everyone. So…we’ve added a Platial map!
Our map is interactive so that you can add your own marker letting everyone know where you’ve traveled. You can add photos, comments, etc. to your marker or to an existing marker. We’ve kicked things off by adding several stops that the Packit Gourmet bus visited this summer. We haven’t gotten around to uploading the photos yet but we hope to add them very soon.
We can’t wait to see the adventures that you’ll add to our map!
We’ve had dehydrated mixed bell peppers available on the site for some time now but we just added the freeze-dried version today!
Our freeze-dried green bell peppers are fabulous and incredibly versatile. A slightly sweet pepper, I like to use them to jazz up just about any dish. They’re great in soups, pasta, eggs, pizza….I could go on and on. To retain a fresh texture, I like to throw them in at the last minute. I’ve even used them in my veggie trail mix! Since they’re freeze-dried, these bell peppers rehydrate instantly and can even be eaten ‘raw’ – they’re slightly crunchy when eaten that way.
Our dehydrated mixed bell peppers are equally fantastic and add a pop of color to your dish. Since they’re dehydrated, they take longer to cook than the freeze-dried peppers, so use these when you dish is going to cook for at least 5 minutes. The great thing about using dehydrated is that since they do cook with your food for a longer amount of time, the flavor has more time to infuse throughout your dish.
We got in a new condiment today – Kraft’s Creamy Tartar Sauce.
I’ve gotta say, noting goes better with fish, in my opinion, than tartar sauce…and maybe a little lemon juice. In addition to the required pickles, this tartar sauce also sports tiny flecks of onion, parsley and garlic. Yum!
We’ve had the lemon juice in for awhile but I thought that I’d stick it up here since it goes with the tartar sauce and all. I usually take quite a few of these packets with us on a hike and use them on all sorts of things – I’ll squeeze a packet into my water if I want a little extra flavor, you can use them to clean a wound if you need to and of course, you can squeeze the juice over your fish!
We know that there are plenty of people out there who prefer to enjoy the solitude of the wilderness, be it camping, canoeing, backpacking or skiing. So, we’re going through our recipe box and converting many of our two person entrĂ©es into a single serving portion.
It will take a little time to work out the changes to all of our meals but we’re a persistent bunch! So far, we have Ramen Rescue and our Diner 3-Egg Hen House Omelet available in a single serving.
In order to make it as easy as possible to find the meals that are
available in a single serving, we’ve created a new category under Trail Meals, called Single Serving Meals. We’ll be listing all of the meals available in a single serving here, whether they’re a breakfast, lunch or dinner.
